The Second Time is a Charm, 1987
"Insurance Building", Albany, NY, Greg Seleman Architects Airbrushed Opaque Water Colors, Size 30"x 40"
I did this painting twice. I worked for about sixty hours on the first version and really stuggled with it. It had an incredibly short deadline. It was going very slow and not as easy as I had hoped. I was airbrushing one side of the pink glass boxes. The airbrush cup somehow came loose and fell onto the surface of the painting. It left a splatter the size of a grapefruit on the surface of the illustration. Ahhhhhh...It angered me so I stood from my hunched position and ripped the illustration from my drawing board and tore it in half! Incredibly tired and upset, I left my office and went home to bed. The illustration was due the next day, I called the customer and told them honestly what had happened. They where not happy but, they accepted it and this version was the finished piece. The reflections of the trees in the glass boxes are my farvorite part. The building was constructed with blue glass instead of pink. I feel they made a wise choice.
